THE OFFER OF SECONDARY EDUCATION

“SHAPING WELL-ROUNDED INDIVIDUALS CAPABLE OF ACHIEVING A BETTER FUTURE…FOR EVERYONE…”

Moving forward in the development of Secondary Education is one of the key priorities of our institution. This level has an identity of its own, and its essential objective is to provide the opportunity for all the pupils to make their own personal choices, whether concerning which subjects to continue to a more advanced level, or entry into the world of work.

During their secondary school years, the pupils experience one of the most decisive times of their lives: adolescence. It is a time of rethinking everything, a time of strong affections, a time when friends are a priority; it is the time when identity is consolidated; it is the time for discovering the values that give coherence to one’s personal lifestyle. During this time it is necessary for the school to be there to help the pupils to discover and understand themselves, to accompany the young people and prepare them for the future.

From this perspective education plays a decisive role in the all-round upbringing of the human being as a person and as a member of society. In other words, education constitutes itself as being consubstantial with human development.

The functions established for Secondary Education take account of those assigned to this level through time, but today there are added many requirements, both implicit and explicit, that such teaching must meet in order to recover its prestige and value.

In Glasgow College, every teacher has the opportunity to contribute, through interaction, to the personal development of each pupil.

The transformation of our times makes manifest an intention to offer an education that effectively promotes the development of aptitudes. That is to say, of abilities that will make the pupil capable of solving the problems that life poses, as well as awakening the enterprising spirit of the adolescents, allowing them to be the protagonists of their own projects and starting to live productively in such a dynamic and complex situation as the present. In this sense, communicative development in the English language, actively contributing to the growth of society as a whole, acquires a particular importance.

In this way only, Glasgow College proposes to incorporate itself into the life of the pupil as something valuable, functional and meaningful.
